Thoughts by Sam

It was not our first time up in the Choir Loft. But for me, it was my first time being there early. For once, I saw the church dark and empty.. and a thought just flickered to all those devoted church helpers who serve us tirelessly every week, coming way before and staying way after the Mass. They've probably been the ones to open and lock the doors, and are probably the first ones arriving on church compounds each day, or the last to leave (besides the priests of course). This was probably what they saw.

Well, this night, was a minor breakthrough for us. We were a little louder this round with the availability of 3 microphones up in the loft, which enabled us to be slightly more audible during the singing and hymns. So for once, we sounded like an ensemble, with an array of piano, guitar, flute and violins. It was nice. We were playing with Angie from the St. Cecilia Choir for the first time.. it was great to work with her.

All in all, just being here was a blessing for us. Certainly the group had fun while playing music - something we all love to do. But more than that, I felt that when Fr. Greg did his sharing about his life as a priest and the trials he had to go through from Vietnam all the way to Singapore, I was amazed and so privileged to be able to hear it. This was a true and heartfelt life story of our parish priest. How many of us have heard that story?

The service was beautiful, with a time of exposition of the Blessed Sacrament. A time for reflection. It was certainly spirit-filled!
